Alejandra HarguthEnrich your life and your understanding of other cultures while helping newcomers to the Littleton community! The Littleton Immigrant Initiative has numerous volunteer opportunities available. Training, support and materials are provided. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Helping to staff the One-Stop Information Center at Bemis Public Library
  • Assisting the Health and Wellness coordinator with workshops, etc.
  • Serving as a one-on-one mentor at Bemis Library to help immigrants prepare for their citizenship examination
  • Volunteering as a tutor with English as a Second Language programs, or coming to ESL classes to talk with people who want to practice their English
  • Assisting with workshops and events--for example, distributing fliers, bringing snacks, setting up the room, greeting participants, etc.
  • Speaking about the Initiative at meetings of civic and faith-based groups, and other organizations
  • Interpreting at workshops and events, and/or translating materials into other languages, if you have special language skills
  • Seeking business or corporate support for the work of the Initiative
  • Hosting a gathering of community residents or employees at your organization, workplace or home. We will come to talk about our work and the strengths and challenges that growing diversity brings to our community
  • If you would like to volunteer for any of these activities, please send an email to aharguth@littletongov.org. Include in the email message your name, telephone number and activity that you are interested in helping with.


    All community members – whether newcomers or long-term residents – are welcomed to become involved in the initiative.   The initiative has no dues or application requirement.  Membership on these committees is open to anyone who is interested in becoming involved. 

    The initiative has a series of committees that help guide its work. They are:

    One-Stop Information Center Committee, contact aharguth@littletongov.org

    The One-Stop Information Center is housed at Bemis Public Library, 6014 Datura St., Littleton, CO 80120.  Coordinator Alejandra Harguth has information on a wide range of topics.  The Center also organizes free training programs from time to time. 

     

    Health and Wellness Committee, contact dkeller@littletongov.org

    Daiga Keller, Health Liaison, provides immigrants and refugees with information about the availability of health and mental health services.

     

    School/Parent Liaison Committee, contact aharguth@littletongov.org

    The School/Parent Liaison helps families find resources that assist in their child’s learning. 

     

    English as a Second Language (ESL) Committee, contact aharguth@littletongov.org

    The ESL Committee has surveyed the availability of ESL classes in the Littleton area and can provide information about these classes
