Immigrant Pathways Colorado (IPC) is pleased to announce that it has received a grant of $1,500 from First Citizens Bank in support of its One-Immigrant-at-a-Time Program.
Under the program, IPC makes self-development grants to immigrants and refugees who are in the country with documents, and who have very low income.
Susan Thornton, founder and co-chair of IPC, said the grants, which have been made to immigrants from more than 30 countries, are for things like applying for citizenship, obtaining tools for work, and enrolling in classes for degrees and certificates. The goal is to improve the family’s standard of living and help them feel more at home in the community.
Many professionals – for example doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers and pilots are not allowed to work at their chosen profession in the U.S. until they have been re-trained, and IPC makes grants to these professionals as well.
In addition to making self-development grants, IPC provides community education workshops and scholarships for immigrant students studying at Arapahoe Community College.
First Citizen Bank has branches in six Colorado locations, including one each in Boulder, Denver, Englewood, Greenwood Village and two in Westminster.
