A study described in the Feb. 17 issue of The Denver Post by Nancy Lohfolm showed the economic impact of Colorado workers born in other countries to be an amazing $4.2 billion in just 2011.
The study, based on data from surveys conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, found that one in 10 Coloradans is foreign-born and that 305,000 of them work in the state. It demonstrated the economic “ripple effect” of their earnings and spending, finding that for every 20 immigrants employed in the state, seven jobs are created.
It also found that immigrants make up 9 percent of Colorado’s entrepreneurs.
