Good news! A project that grew out of the original work of the Littleton Immigrant Integration Initiative has received some major funding, and we are happy for the project’s ongoing success!
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service has awarded a $145,894 grant to the Littleton Immigrant Resource Center (LIRC) at Littleton’s Bemis Library. The grant funds will be used to hire a full-time citizenship coordinator for a two-year period. The LIRC will also offer additional beginner, intermediate and advanced naturalization classes.
The grant was one of 31 awarded to promote immigrant civic integration and prepare permanent residents for citizenship. More than 150 applications were received from 21 states and the District of Columbia.
The LIRC was recently awarded another grant of $15,000 through the Colorado Department of Education in partnership with Littleton Public Schools. This money will be used to hire a part-time literacy coordinator for one year.
An $8,000 grant was also given to the LIRC from the Buck Family Foundation to help with other expenses.
